Sarah Schönfeld

Looking for art for my client, i remembered the work of Sarah Schönfeld which impressed me a lot. This is what she says:
"Wende Gelände is my photographic record of important places from my childhood that fell into decay as a result of the Wende [the collapse of communist East Germany and the creation of a unified German state] and the subsequent structural changes.."

Arpin 1817

In the Savoie last week, our friends told us to go to Arpin 1817. The factory has been classified as a living heritage company. 14 machines are listed on the National heritage register and in active service....
'It is these machines, and the hands that operate them, generation after generation, which give Arpin fabrics all their individuality and their unique qualities, as striking to see as to touch. Master wool worker, Master weaver, overseer, upholsterer, quilter…. these noble, ancestral trades continue to live on within the Factory. '

Volkskrant Magazine

Last Saturday in Volkskrant Magazine, the house of Marina van Goor. I am not going to try to catch her interior in words, her talent for beauty, eye for old and new. Enjoy. Ontwerpstudio Marina van Goor. Pictures by Jeltje Janmaat.

Marian Cramer

Dutch photographer Jeltje took these photos at Marian Cramers house which resulted in an article in the Residence, March 2012. Styling by me. Marian's family home is, apart from an amazing mixture of antique, design and art, also a home gallery. An inspiring and sophisticated place. Do visit her website and gallery,

Louise Bourgeois

Last weekend in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg, so impressed by the work of Louise Bourgeois. Her spider 'mamam' is an homage to her mother, who worked as a restorer of tapestries. Restoring and rebuilding of woven material, just as a spider does, also becomes a symbol for endless, always repeating, renewing life in general. Louise Bourgeois' visual language expresses fear, dependancy, memory, sexuality, love and death.
Her fabrics gathered in a book called 'ode a l'oubli' are so moving, personal and intimate. Louise embroidered odds and ends of material and clothing found around the artist's own household. From precious monogrammed napkins to huckaback-weave dish towels, colorful bits of silk, twill curtain liner fabric, and old nylons.

Marian Cramer Projects

Tim Ayres is one of the artists presented by Marian Cramer Projects. She is part of a new wave of gallerists like in New York and London who have made art galleries out of their homes. Like 17th-century salonistes, they aim to spur discussion and create a deeper connection to the artwork, www.mariancramer.com

Bart Lodewijks in Brasil

Blackboard chalk on white walls, Rio de Janiero 2011, by Bart Lodewijks. Bart is a dear friend of the lucky Dutch owners of this beautiful house. He found the perfect title for his piece of art: Black chalk on white walls in exchange for eternal friendship. More of Bart Lodewijk's fascinating work, www.bartlodewijks.nl.

The Rietveld Building

Some interior details I like at the Rietveld Academie. The main building was designed by architect and furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld between 1950 and 1963 and completed in 1966. It is the largest of Gerrit Rietveld’s buildings. There was a long period of preparation between its commission and its completion, during which important developments took place in Rietveld’s way of designing. The academy moved into the building in 1967, www.gerritrietveldacademie.nl.

Waiting to be posted since I visited Art Amsterdam and saw the impressive and beautiful work of Frank Lenferink. In muted brown, green and mustard-yellow colours he paints a cabinet, lamp or table, in a precise, sober stile, www.franklenferink.nl.
